Shaoning Jiang, PhD
- Position: Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Diabetes Research Member
Biography
Dr. Shaoning Jiang obtained her PhD degree in the Molecular and Cellular Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and then received postdoctoral training at UAB and University of Oklahoma health Science Center (OUHSC).=
Dr.Jiang’s primary research goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms by which adverse maternal environments including diabetes mellitus and obesity impact placental/fetal mitochondrial and peroxisome biogenesis and function, and offspring long-term risk of metabolic diseases. She has been investigating the central roles of AMPK and epigenetic mechanisms by analyzing human cells and placental tissues of patients with diabetes and by using mouse models of maternal high fat diet.
Another ongoing project focuses on investigating the roles of miRNAs in regulating brown/beige adipogenesis and energy metabolism using transgenic mouse models.
