In May of 2019, the HHDC hired its first Grants Manager, Alexandra LeGrant. Alex was born and raised in Enid, Oklahoma, and earned two degrees in Finance and Accounting from Oklahoma State University. She comes to OUHSC having worked for eight years in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University in Pre-Award Development, Award Setup and Project Management.
Alex helped steer seven new core faculty onto their positions in the HHDC, moving all of our new investigator's grants to OU from other institutions. This involved all aspects of grants management including set-up and new Memorandum of Understanding with five different departments as co-hires with the HHDC. Alex has developed a deep knowledge of NIH practices and policies, and mounted new applications from HHDC faculty, interacting with the Office of Research Administration and seeing them through post-award. HHDC core faculty members have brought in $8.7 million in external funding and have proposed even more projects that are moving the HHDC research base toward more NIH funding in collaboration across campus and with other institutions.
Alex is a wonderful resource that HHDC investigators can turn to and share the burden of proposal preparation, award setup, and expending each award. Her role is to help our faculty members through the administrative and financial processes of grants management and accounting at HHDC. Along with the excellent administrative staff in the HHDC, our researchers can do what they do best, research.
